How we sharpen your scissors
Scissor sharpening is a craft, not a routine job. Our five-step process restores every hairdressing scissor to factory standard.
1. Disassembly and inspection
Every scissor is fully disassembled. We inspect the blades, the pivot and the tension screw for wear or damage.
2. Sharpening to factory standard
We sharpen at the original factory angle — convex for Japanese scissors, bevel for classic models. Not a generic angle, but the angle of your scissor.
3. Cleaning and edge finishing
The blade is finished, degreased and polished. The cutting edge is checked under magnification for a perfect, razor-sharp finish.
4. Reassembly and balance
We reassemble the scissor, set the tension and test the balance. It feels like the day it left the forge.
5. Cut test on real hair
Every scissor leaves our workshop only after a cut test on real hair. That is when we know the edge is truly right.
Which scissors we sharpen
We sharpen every type of hairdressing scissor: Japanese convex scissors, thinning shears, classic European hairdressing scissors and left-handed models. We also work on top brands such as Mizutani, Yasaka, Joewell, Kasho, Hikari, Jaguar and Wahl.

Frequently asked questions about scissor sharpening
- How often should I have my hairdressing scissor sharpened?
- For a full-time hairdresser we recommend sharpening every 6 to 12 months. If you cut less, once a year is enough. Don't wait until the scissor folds or pulls — by then it's already too late.
- Where can I have my scissor sharpened?
- You can send your scissor to our workshop in Sankt-Vith (4780, Belgium). We ship it back after sharpening, or we come to your salon free of charge from 5 scissors (Tue/Wed).
- What does scissor sharpening cost?
- A standard sharpening is €35 per scissor (excl. VAT). That includes full disassembly, sharpening, tension adjustment and cut test. No hidden costs.
- Do you also sharpen Japanese convex scissors?
- Yes — Japanese convex scissors are our specialty. Many sharpeners avoid them; we sharpen them at the original convex angle.
- How long does sharpening take?
- Usually you get your scissor back within 5 working days. In busy periods this can extend to 7 working days. We always confirm the return date in advance.
